The purpose of this blog/website is to begin educating and advocating for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. There has been a humanitarian crisis going on in this country since 1989 and you could say back into the late 1800’s at the rise of colonialism in this area.
A church in Fort Wayne, IN called Fellowship Missionary Church in the past few years have been awaken to this crisis through a formed partnership with a global relief organization called World Relief. World Relief has been working in this area since 2002 after a volcano erupted. World Relief is first a disaster relief organization and a development organization once area has stabilized.
Over 5.4 million people have died either by being killed or due to hunger and illness of the aftermath of being forced from their homes since 1989. It’s estimated that another 1.5 million people are currently displaced in their own country.
This crisis is very complicated. There are many issues influencing the fighting right now. It’s a combination of residual aftermath of the Rwandan Genocide, DRC being a mineral rich country, lack of life giving resources, and a host of other issues.
FMC is committed to pray for this country, a continued commitment to providing resources to the area, and sending teams of skilled individuals to the area to assist World Relief’s efforts.
This blog is to keep you informed of the issues in DRC and to keep you updated on what FMC & WR is doing about it.
